The U.S. West Coast Taekwondo Association was established in Portland, Oregon during 1988 by Chief Grand Master J.K. Shin, and is currently the largest group of professional martial arts schools in the Pacific Northwest. Our association is affiliated with both the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) and USA Taekwondo (USAT). Because of this, our students have the opportunity to reach Olympic levels. All of our Black Belts are certified from our World Taekwondo Headquarters, Kukkiwon (located in Seoul, South Korea) making each Black Belt recognized as such anywhere in the world.
Tae Kwon Do originated in Korea over 5,000 years ago. The word Tae means "foot", Kwon means "fist", and Do means "the way", and these are the principles we teach at Rock Creek. All of our students, whether they're children or adults, learn how to effectively use self-defense to protect themselves if ever faced with a dangerous situation. They also learn key life skills such as leadership, honesty, confidence, self-control, and respect.
